Mayor Wheeler- a Major Flea Fan!
You never know who you’ll see at the Flea. Have you noticed Kansas City’s former Mayor, Charles Wheeler, eating lunch? He is actually one of our regulars and has been coming in for years. He even has a table named after him!
Wheeler was Kansas City’s 49th Mayor from 1971 to 1979 and a Missouri State Senator. He earned his medical degree from KU, his law degree from UMKC, and served in the Navy and Air Force. During his time as mayor he was responsible for so many great things in Kansas City that Ingram’s business magazine said: “Many regard this as the last golden age of Kansas City with the construction of KCI, Worlds of Fun, Crown Center, and the Truman Sports Complex.” We had the opportunity to talk with him about why he comes to the Westport Flea Market.
